Today, in the ARW class, we thought about the new essay topic. In the class, I wanted to write about the Japanese Americans, who fought against the Axis powers (Japan, Germany, Italy, and so on) for the US during the WWⅡ. They are called "442nd Infantry Regiment". I do not think about how I write about this topic in the essay in detail, but I want to connect this theme with the ancient countries, such as Athens and Rome, and the civil rights.
If you have any ideas, please give me some for me:D

04/10/2010 Today's Ken's class ~Racism~
This is my first time to write an English blog. In this blog, I want to write about the classes of ARW.
In the beginning of the today's class, we talked about the meaning of race and racism. In the discussion, I think two things.
Firstly, "Reverse Discrimination" exist all over the world now. In the world, discrimination against black and yellow people, women, other religious people and so on, still exists. However, to solve the problems of discrimination, some people, who was in the authority position such as white people and men, suffer the "Reverse Discrimination"(the practice of giving unfair treatment to a group of people who usually have advantages, in order to be fair to the group of people who were unfairly treated in the past)(Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English) in the world, especially in the US. After in the US "affirmative action"(an action or policy favoring those who tend to suffer from discrimination, esp. in relation to employment or education; positive discrimination.)(The New Oxford American Dictionary) was done, in some cases white people and men are much harder to take a job or enter a school than black and yellow people and women because of the affirmative action. I think it's the new style of discrimination and also a problem.
Secondly, when the authority are minority, to govern their country (or area) easily they use "discrimination". In their country (or area), if there are two anti-authority group, the authority treat one much better and discriminate the other. For the authority to get along with one anti-authority group leads to a division of enemies. For example, in South Africa, to get along with Boer people, who are Dutch immigration, English people start the apartheid policy.
Next, we did agree or disagree questions.In the questions, I want to talk about 2 questions.
First question is "Everybody is a racist in some way". I agree with this question because when racist people talk about the benefits of the discrimination and even when anti-racist people talk about the importance of the prohibition on the discrimination in the world, both of them talk "on" the theme of racism. Only in terms of racism, they can talk about that.
Second question is "Race does not exist but racism does". I agree with this question and I think racism was constructed by the society. Here, I want to talk about melanin. According to a theory, in many situations, the people who have lived for a very long time in the areas, where ultraviolet rays have been so much stronger, have become black people. In contrast, the people who have lived for a very long time in the areas, where ultraviloet rays have not been so stronger, have become white people. Therefore, the differences not from their inferiority but from the strong or weak reaction to ultraviolet rays have the scientific causes whether skins became black or white (or yellow), so "race does not exist, but only racism exists in the world".
